The Northern California Hair Restoration Centers in Lodi, Modesto and Stockton offers platelet-rich plasma injections for patients looking for a nonsurgical treatment option for hair loss or thinning hair. Modesto, CA hair transplant surgeons Drs. Theodore Staahl (our board-certified facial plastic surgeon) and Kimberly Cockerham (our board-certified oculofacial plastic surgeon) have both been trained in advanced placement techniques with blood-derived growth factors and stem cells to provide patients with beautiful results. If you have sparse eyelashes, alopecia, or thinning eyebrows, our surgeons may recommend PRP treatment to assist with healthier hair growth after transplant surgery or for a nonsurgical treatment to slow hair loss. PRP enriches the hair follicle so that it grows better, stronger, and longer.

Candidates for PRP
Since we will be injecting your own blood plasma, PRP treatments are suitable for all patients. Hair loss patients desiring PRP will need to be healthy and have realistic aesthetic goals in mind. Great candidates are in the early stages or phases of their hair loss. You may not qualify for PRP if you have a blood clotting disorder, liver disease, low blood pressure, or low platelet counts. Keep in mind you may be asked to reschedule your injection appointment if you have had an illness, infection, or cancer treatments.
In our offices at the Northern California Hair Restoration Centers, we will draw your blood to begin the PRP process. After collecting a sample of blood, the platelets and growth factors will be separated from the blood in a sterile centrifuge. Only the highest quality platelets will be selected for this treatment, which will take about 45 – 60 minutes. Drs. Staahl or Cockerham will numb the site of your hair loss with a topical and then local anesthesia. The PRP will then be injected under the scalp with an ultra-fine needle and/or applied to the scalp during a microneedling treatment.
Results are different for each patient; however, you should see a difference in 4 – 6 months after the PRP treatment. A series of 3 - 6 injections are performed monthly. We recommend that you repeat the treatment every 12 – 18 months to boost the health of your hair follicles. In order for us to see how your hair follicles are responding to the treatment, you will be monitored and additional interventions discussed and implemented as needed. PRP treatments are often used in conjunction with Biotin supplementation and minoxidil.
